In loving memory 9 years later

Today is September 11, 2010 and our nation pauses to remember the horrible tragedy that happened on that day in 2001.  It has been 9 years since we watched the planes that were hijacked fly into the twin towers. We watched in horror as the planes exploded on impact and the fires raged and the smoke billowed into the morning sky.  We stared in disbelief as the victims jumped to their death from many stories above the ground in a desperate attempt to escape the fires and smoke that raged all around them.  I found out about this because our neighbor called us and told us that a plane had flown into the World Trade Center and to turn on the television.  I was thinking that it was a horrible mistake and then we sat there in our living room glued to the television in disbelief as we watched the second plane fly into the second World Trade Center tower.  I will never forget the disbelief as we watched one tower and then the next drop from the skies of New York City and fall into the ground at ground zero.

Later that morning I had to go to the bank and as I was standing in line with the rest of the bank customers talking about what we had seen I was reminded of the fact that the horror that was unfolding on CNN and other news channels had served to block out the fact that our daughter Jessica Ann would have been 11 years old on that very day.  Jessica Ann passed away on August 5, 2001 after fighting a 14 month battle with cancer.  I have many memories of our daughter and she will never be forgotten.  I still remember how I could make her laugh and she would say "Oh Daddy!".  Jessica was one of four children and she was always the peace keeper of the four and would take the blame for whatever it was the other kids were doing at the time.  I am posting a couple of pictures of Jessica in different times of her last days.

My son Jeremy took this picture of Jessica while she was sleeping.  She was so peaceful sleeping on our couch and Jeremy loved her very much.  Jessica is our angel in heaven now.

This is a picture of Jessica and her puppy angel.  I got angel at the flea market in Ladson as a gift for our Jessica and she loved angel and angel gave her a lot of moments of joy. We still have angel to this day and she is a very good dog.

I took this picture of Jessica in an airboat when we experienced a week in Florida at Give Kids the World Village.  This picture shows Jessica having a great time and showing her smile that could light up any room or place she would happen to be in.  For this moment in time Jessica was able to forget the cancer and treatments and side affects and immerse herself into the moment of being a kid and having a good time with her family.

This is Jessica walking around at Disney between rides.
