I went to post a praise report this morning in the Praise Report message phorum on Jesus Connect and noticed the following.
Prayer requests has 219 messages
Praies Reports has 17 messages
What does that mean folks?
That means that we spend more time asking God for help than we spend in thanking HIM for what HE has already done. We need to remember to be just as quick to thank HIM for the many blessings that we get no matter how small or common we think they are.
Think about this.
Here are things that we take for granted in America
Food
Clothing
roof over our heads (some of us have VERY NICE roofs)
vehicle(s) to drive
jobs to go to
running water
electricity
sewage service
gas service
cable or satellite tv
radio stations
trash pick up
Internet
computers
Home entertainment
Church building to go to for services
Church events in non hostile environment
our health
our families and being able to see them or talk to them via telephone
US Postal Service
Our governmental services that we whine about all the time
What am I forgetting here folks? I am sure there is something that I forgot but you are getting the point. We need to be just as excited about praising God as we are asking Him for assistance. We need to feel the same amount of urgency to tell Abba Father and ourselves about GOOD stuff that happens in our lives. Why do we horde all the cool stuff to ourselves and share all the junk in our lives? Think about it for a second.
What are you thankful for? You ask for prayer but you never report back about God's provision and answer to your prayer. Yes, God sometimes says NO. God tells us NO because sometimes HE teaches us through patience that we ask things foolishly. We should be thankful that God does say no. What IF we did get EVERYTHING that we do ask for? That would be a very scary thing indeed.
Lets determine to have an attitude of gratitude in the year 2002 and increase our praise reports to match our prayer requests !
God bless

This drivel is for Cybercitizens that would like some extra information or help with regards to traveling the corridors of Cybersafe safely and effectively.
Here are some applications that would make your computing experience on the Internet more enjoyable and add functionality to your Internet experience.
A. Make sure that you learn how to do a backup of any data on your hard drive. Data includes but is not limited to MS Office documents that you might create such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Publisher etc etc. Any application that you use that saves data should have that data backed up. I HIGHLY recommend that you load your Operating System (Windows 95,98,ME, 2000, XP whatever) on C drive (boot partition) and put your data on D drive (different partition). That way if you install a piece of software that hoses up your OS where the computer wont boot you have not lost your data. You can then reinstall your OS and your data will be untouched.
B. Make sure you have a good anti virus application that does real time file scanning as well as E-mail screening.
I have used Norton Anti Virus for many years and believe it is one of the best. McAfee has a good product as well. If you go to http://www.grisoft.com you can download a FREE anti virus program for home users that is very good too. Viruses can destroy data , mess up your Operating system on your computer and propogate itself from your computer to other people on the Internet via your Email program IF you are using Outlook or Outlook Express. Computer Viruses also WASTE OUR TIME. The time spent on virus prevention and fixing the issues once a virus does get through costs companies of all sizes billions of dollars per year.
C. Make sure that you run "Windows Update" on a weekly basis to keep your computer software environment current. Click on Start and then go all the way to the top until you see Windows Update. Download and install any CRITICAL updates that Microsoft shows you. Microsoft products are full of security bugs that must be fixed and they seem to release patches all the time for the bugs in their software.
D. Make sure that if you are on the Internet a lot or have a cable modem or dsl connection (high speed) to the Internet to have a personal firewall. Zonealarm is one of the best software firewalls on the market and there is a free version for home users. You can download this by going to http://www.zonealarm.com . Firewall software keeps people out of your computer. It is sort of like a computer gate. It keeps your stuff on your computer on your computer and keeps hackers and snoops from the outside out of your computer.
The BEST solution for a personal firewall for folks that have Comcast @Home or Road Runner or another Cable Internet provider is to go out and purchase a router/switch/firewall combination. Doing this requires a little bit of courage and networking know how. If you are not familiar with how to set up a basic peer to peer home network connected to the Internet then you would have to find someone locally that can help you. I recently went out and purchased a Linksys Router/Switch/Firewall. I plugged my cable modem into one port and then I plugged in all of my computers (2 at the moment) into the switch side of the device. I configured my static IP address that Comcast @home provided me to my router which in turn acts as a DHCP server for my internal private network.
Routers are virtual gates that shuffle data packets from one network to the other and keeps people OUT of networks that they do not belong in. I access the Internet through my Router/Switch and the firewall KEEPS everyone out. The device is configured through a web browser interface which makes it very nice.
E. If someone sends you an e-mail stating that "thus and so" is an e-mail virus and instructs you to do something then please DO NOT DO ANYTHING. There are a lot of virus HOAXES floating around on the Internet where folks are passing along every rumor they can find to everyone in their email address book. Go to http://securityresponse.symantec.com/ for the latest security and virus threats on the Internet. I have over 12 years of IT (Information Technology ) experience and this site is the one I use. :)
F. In order to talk to me via audio you will need the following products installed on your computer
1. Microphone, speakers and soundcard on your computer. You probably have these things already
2. A software application that allows voice chat such as Yahoo Instant Messenger or PalTalk or Netmeeting
3. Go to http://www.yahoo.com or http://www.paltalk.com to download either of these Instant Messenger programs and install them. Once you do that you can run the audio wizzard to configure your audio settings
Like I said earlier I have 12+ years of experience in Information Technology. I am currently a LAN Manager at the Public Works Commission at the Naval Weapons Station in Charleston. I am a contractor working for the Navy and I help take care of one of the Local Area Networks that has 150 computer users and 8 file/print servers. I live and breath techology in other words. :) If you go to http://jesus-connect.net/world/filebase/useful_tools.htm you will see that I have uploaded some useful tools (software programs) that you will find handy for computing on the Internet. If you feel that there are some other tools that are missing from this new archive please email me at jcmoffitt@jcmoffitt.com and let me know. I will find what you are looking for and upload it soon.

As you get to know James Moffitt you will realize that you will be exposed to the many "personas" of me, I and myself. Some days you might come to my web log and find myself in a full fledged conversation with myself fully not expecting anyone else to be here. That is OK.... My doctor said I would be fine. He just did not say when.
hahahahahahaha. For those of you that REALLY KNOW me you understand the story that goes along with that statement.
The cool thing about blogging or having the ability to maintain a weblog is that when you forget to blather about a point or two you can just pick up where you left off and bore folks to death with a new blog. :) It also helps to give me something to do while the rest of my family, birds, fish, cats and doggie are still fast asleep.
Here are the different sides to James Moffitt
A. Personal Ministry for Christ. I spend a LOT of time in ministry to others through Jesus Connect Ministries online and in personal ministry through activities at church which include helping out occasionally with pulpit ministry, Audio and Video production and maintenance, mimimal childrens ministry help and of course our bowling team on Sunday afternoons.
B. MR. TECHNOLOGY.... I live and breath technology at an alarming rate. Am I the sharpest pin in the pile with regards to technology? I am sure that there are those out there in cyberspace and in the IT industry that are much sharper than I. I have been in Information Technology now for approximately 12 years. If your issue has anything to do with Intel based Microcomputers and the software and hardware that runs on them then I will probably be able to help you with it. If you have questions about the Internet and the many programs that you can use to get what you need from the Web I am the man for the job. I have about 7 years of Internet experience so I am an excellent resource for new cybercitizens.
C. WRITER and UNKNOWN Author. :) I fancy myself to be somewhat of a writer. My wife calls me a master babbler which means that once I get started it is very difficult to shut me up. I love to talk and I love to write. I tend to write about either Christianity (my personal walk especially) OR Technology. I have found that the Internet and the World Wide Web is an excellent way to share your mindless drivel with the global audience.
D. DEEP THINKER..... If you put me in a room full of social butterflies that are geniuses when it comes to the game Trivial Pursuit and superficial conversation I would last about 10 minutes before I find my escape route out of the room. Put me in a situation where I am talking to one to five people and we can get beyond the surface in convesation and I thrive in that environment. I am a REAL person that experiences REAL life in a REAL way and am always searching for REAL HOPE and REAL solutions to REAL PROBLEMS. In my experience MOST folks are the same way. I have found that my walk with Jesus Christ thus far has been my ONLY HOPE for most of the problems in my life. You will find my talking more often than not about my daily struggle to figure out and live those things that God shows me through my personal relationship to Him.

Houston, I believe our problems have been resolved with regards to Blogger.com. I am so happy to see that my frustration level over Blogger.com has been lessened. That means that our friend EV is sleeping a little better as well. EV is apparently the one man show who keeps Blogger.com alive. I can relate to this since I work hand in hand with my friend Reynold over at Jesus Connect and keep what we are doing afloat every day. You would be AMAZED at how much time, energy, talent and WORK goes into providing this kind of service to the cybercitizens of the world. I forgot to say CASH didn' I??
I talk to folks all the time that are looking for FREE stuff off the Intenet both in regards to software but also services. People have this misconception that just because the World Wide Web makes cyberspace appear to be a cyber mall that everything should be either free or cheap. The problem with that misconception is that everything that you see in cyberspace was created by a programmer and maintained by a web master or network administrator or sometimes all three of those folks working together. That does not mention the servers that are used to host that service or product on the Internet and the costs of running those servers.
Dont get me wrong here. I enjoy surfing the web like the next guy and if given a choice I would rather test out some shareware product that is much cheaper to purchase a license for before I shell out hundreds of bucks for a commercial product that might very well be over hyped. The advantage to purchasing over hyped software from a commercial vendor is that you are going to possibly get better tech support and free upgrades for a year and with the shareware software that is out there you might not get fast response or upgrades.
EV, my hat goes off to you just as it does any other cyberspace citizen who provides a free service or product to us cybercitizens. God bless you my friend.
