A time to mourn
We spent considerable time and money today determining that there is not much we can do for Sammy. The vet told us that there is very little chance that Sammy will regain the use of his legs and become a walkable dog again. Sammy is dragging his rear legs around behind him and has already lost control of his bowels. So, with that in mind we decided that it is best to put him to sleep tomorrow. Sammy boy will be sorely missed.
I remember the day that we got Sammy. We were at the flea market in Greenville SC selling computers right after the contract I was on went belly up. I think that we had moved from Simpsonville to Travelers Rest in July two years ago. Anyway, I was doing my thing and the kids came up to me with this cute little brown puppy that you could put in the palm of your hand. They begged me to get the puppy and in light of all the other hardships that we had endured I figured that Sammy would bring a lot of love and joy and happiness into a family that could really use some at that point. It is amazing to me how much joy, fun and adventure that Sammy has brought into our lives. Sammy certainly has his own unique personality. It will be especially hard for me to lose Sammy because I had a LOT of fun playing with him on the bed when I would come home for work and get undressed. Sammy and I would lay on the bed and play rough and tumble and I could get him to bark at me at the slightest facial gesture.
Sammy refused to go to the restroom when we would put him out on the chain but insisted that Katy always walk him and Angel together down the road. Only then would Sammy do his business. Sammy would drive the next door neighbors crazy as he would sit there and bark and bark at Paul Bunyon and clan. That was only when Sammy was on his chain because if you let him loose and Paul Bunyon would be in the yard Sammy and Angel both make a bee line towards him and try to knock him down. Sammy really did take a liking to Paul Bunyon that is for sure.
I know that Sammy is only a dog but he is one of the family pets and we certainly count him as part of our family. We love you Sammy!!!
